Fridge matched to an accent wall. This petite kitchen is bursting with personality — a small pink Smeg fridge is tucked neatly into a nook in the buttery yellow cabinets, and there’s a fun scrap-wood backsplash. To get a similar look, track down a fridge or stove in a hue taken from your wallpaper, accent wall or backsplash.
Crafted of oak and incorporating dramatic purple cabinetry, this kitchen is an antidote to all the white and gray designs around. “I like color and enjoy putting some into my kitchens,” says Stephen Graver, who designed this striking room. “There are a lot of gray kitchens out there!”
An unspoken rule of thumb in interiors is to never use blue in rooms such as kitchens or dining rooms where food is being presented. The idea is that blue tones are unnatural and make food look unappetizing. I’m not sure how true that is, but I do know that rules are meant to be broken and blue kitchens are looking cool and current for me.
Sky blue. This home’s style is a Victorian-bohemian mashup, and it certainly shows in the kitchen. The sky blue paint on the cabinetry is calmed a bit by a waxed finish and complemented by gold and deep-orange hues.
