Another way to transition into blue-kitchen territory is to pick the lightest shade of ice blue you can find. Your kitchen will feel modern and fresh, but other materials and colors such as wood and white countertops can take center stage.
When it came to creating the room’s look, the owners began by selecting a large professional range. Graver then worked with them to design a kitchen around the range that’s modern and a bit surprising.
Bold Traditional Palette. Eye-popping colors aren’t just for contemporary kitchens. This handsome kitchen features an oversize bold red range set in rich, dark chocolate cabinets. The tile backsplash has an intricate pattern to it but, because of the neutral colors used, it complements rather than competes with the range.
Wallpaper. Wallpaper is so unexpected in the kitchen, and it’s a treat to see an interesting pattern on the walls instead of flat paint. Many wallpapers are not as delicate as you might think, but if you use one near the stove, it’s best to protect it with a sheet of Plexiglas or a specialty finish. Wallpaper is especially great in small kitchens — the pattern fools the eye into thinking the room extends farther than it actually does.
